In 2001 a group of parents with children who were drug addicts started to meet up with the goal that methadone were given in the clinic of Solsona, because until then the children of these people had to go to cities like Berga or Manresa, Terrassa and Lleida. Thanks to these meetings it was possible to achieve that the methadone was given in Solsona, and at the same time it helped these parents realize that it was necessary to create an association which supported their problems. This association in the beginning was called Associació de Pares i Mares contra la Drogodependència.

The next step was that due to the increment in Solsona and the region of mentally ill people and drug addicts, the association was forced to change the statutes with the new name of SOL DEL SOLSONÈS. ASSOCIACIÓ DE FAMILIARS DE MALALTS MENTALS I DROGODEPENDENTS.

Therefore, the association wanted to promote the knowledge of the mental illness and the drug addiction because in several sectors of the population an stigma of these pathologies is shown. Hence, the association wanted to normalize the citizen’s view, i.e., to make them assume that the mental illnesses are as natural as the ones that affect other parts of the human body.

From then on it gave several services to this group of people in order to orientate and give support to the families that in front of the mental illness of a relative, they find themselves isolated, confused and with a big need of information.

Besides of giving support, information and assessment to the families and mentally ill people and drug addicts, it performed a task of public sensitization and claim of rights of people with mental illness and drug addiction and it promoted and managed resources for this group of people and its relatives.
